JSC GPA Calculator - How the Grading Scale Worked (Archived)
JSC GPA, for archived results (2019 and earlier), was calculated from subject Grade Points on a 5.00 scale: A+ = 5.00, A = 4.00, A- = 3.50, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00. GPA was the average of core-subject GPs, with an optional 4th-subject GP added only if it improved the average. JSC itself was permanently scrapped in January 2023, so this applies only to old results.
Quick facts
- JSC used the same 5.00-point grading scale as SSC and HSC.
- JSC's optional 4th-subject Grade Point was included only if it improved the overall GPA.
Looking to understand how JSC GPA was calculated? Since the exam itself no longer exists, here's how the scale worked for archived results.
Direct answer
JSC GPA (for archived results, 2019 and earlier) was calculated from subject Grade Points on a 5.00 scale. GPA was the average of core-subject GPs, with an optional 4th-subject GP added only if it improved the average. JSC itself was permanently scrapped in January 2023 - see JSC Result 2026 - Current Status - so this explains the historical scale, not a live tool for a current exam.
JSC grading scale
| Marks | Grade | GP |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 | A+ | 5.00 |
| 70–79 | A | 4.00 |
| 60–69 | A- | 3.50 |
| 50–59 | B | 3.00 |
| 40–49 | C | 2.00 |
| 33–39 | D | 1.00 |
| 0–32 | F | 0.00 |
This is the same 5.00-point scale used across Bangladesh's general education boards for SSC and HSC.
How JSC GPA was calculated
GPA = average of all subject Grade Points.
Some subjects were optional (the "4th subject"). Its Grade Point was added to the average only if it improved the overall GPA - if including it would have lowered the average, it was excluded.
Example:
- Bangla: A+ (5.00)
- English: A (4.00)
- Mathematics: A- (3.50)
- Bangladesh & Global Studies: B (3.00)
- Islam & Moral Education: A (4.00)
- Science: A+ (5.00)
- ICT (optional 4th subject): A (4.00)
Average of the 6 core subjects: (5 + 4 + 3.5 + 3 + 4 + 5) ÷ 6 = 4.08 GPA. Since adding ICT's 4.00 would not improve this average, it would be excluded from the final GPA in this example.

What GPA scale did JSC use? A 5.00-point scale: A+ = 5.00, A = 4.00, A- = 3.50, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00 - the same scale used across Bangladesh's general education boards for SSC and HSC.
How was the optional 4th subject handled in JSC GPA? Its Grade Point was added to the average only if doing so improved the overall GPA; otherwise it was excluded from the calculation.
